Las Vegas can be a great place to live.
But it is not a soft landing city.
Before you load a car, book a flight, or sell everything you own, make sure you have these 6 things in place:
1. A Job or Transferable Income
“I’ll find something when I get there” doesn’t work here anymore. Jobs are competitive, hiring is slow, and gaps get expensive fast.
2. A Housing Plan (Not Just Hope)
Know where you’re staying — even short-term. Many rentals require 2.5–3x rent, deposits, and proof of income. Showing up without a plan is how people end up stuck.
3. A Financial Cushion
Vegas moves fast. You should have at least 2–3 months of living expenses after arrival. First month costs more than most people expect.
4. A Realistic Car Plan
Car insurance here shocks almost everyone. Shipping a car + flying often costs more than driving. Run the numbers before you decide.
5. Neighborhood Knowledge
Two places can be 10 minutes apart and feel like different cities. Research safety, noise, access, and day-to-day livability — not just rent price.
6. A Clear Reason for Coming
Vegas won’t fix burnout, debt, loneliness, or starting over without preparation. Know why you’re coming and what success actually looks like for you.
This isn’t about discouraging anyone.
It’s about arriving standing, not scrambling.
Vegas can work — but only if you come prepared.
