I didn’t have high expectations walking into this one — Flamingo isn’t the property everyone’s buzzing about on the Strip right now. But this stay genuinely surprised me, and it’s become my favorite budget pick on the Strip. That’s not a knock on the others I’ve reviewed — it’s just where Flamingo landed for me this time.
Check-In: A 20-Minute Wait That’s “Nothing” by Vegas Standards
I checked in around 6pm on a Monday, and the line looked long enough that I braced for a wait. About 20 minutes later I was at the desk with a genuinely pleasant agent — who, when I mentioned the line, laughed and told me this was nothing compared to a normal night. Worth keeping in mind if you’re checking in during peak hours: budget a little extra time, but don’t expect a bad experience once you’re actually at the counter.
The Room: Small Upgrade, Big Difference
I booked a Habitat Room with one king bed, and it was a slight step up from the base category — and worth every bit of it. The room itself felt clean, modern, and considerably nicer than I expected for a budget-friendly stay. It is a bit of a walk from the elevator, but once you’re inside, that trade-off felt worth it.
The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean — and I appreciated the bedding style here specifically: a comforter sandwiched between two sheets, rather than just a loose blanket on top. It’s a small detail, but it makes a real difference in how put-together the room feels.
Windows You Can Actually See Through
This might sound like a small thing, but after staying at other Strip properties where streaky, dirty windows dulled the view, Flamingo’s clean glass made a real difference. There’s also a lounge chair positioned right by the window — a genuinely nice touch, since it gives you a spot to sit and actually take in the Strip rather than just glancing at it in passing.
The Bathroom
Clean, straightforward, and well-maintained — a glass-enclosed shower, tidy tile work, and everything in working order. Nothing flashy, but nothing to complain about either.
Around the Property: Flamingo Wildlife Habitat, Spa, and More
One of the things that sets Flamingo apart from a lot of Strip properties is the Wildlife Habitat — an actual garden with live flamingos, koi ponds, and turtles tucked behind the casino. It’s free to visit and a genuinely charming break from the casino floor. I’ve been coming to Flamingo for years, and it’s always been a great stop, especially for younger guests or families traveling with kids.
If you’re looking to relax further, the Spa at Flamingo runs a weekday special — massages and facials starting from $109, Monday through Thursday. There’s also a fitness center on-site with a full run of cardio and strength equipment if you want to keep up a routine while you’re in town.
For a quick coffee or a grab-and-go tropical drink, Havana 1957 is right in the promenade — coffee bar up front, a full bar, and frozen tropical drinks you can take with you and refill later for just a few dollars.
The Pools: Something for Everyone
Flamingo actually has two separate pools, and it’s a bigger draw than I expected going in. The Beach Club Pool is the family-friendly side, with a rock-style water slide that kept my own kids entertained for hours years ago — it felt like it went on forever. There’s a 48-inch height minimum to ride, and the whole area has that classic tropical-oasis feel with waterfalls and palm trees.
For guests 21 and up, the GO Pool is a completely different vibe — a 1.5-acre adults-only dayclub with a 30-seat swim-up bar, in-water daybeds, and DJ sets that build up energy as the day goes on. Mornings are more laid-back; by afternoon it turns into a full party atmosphere. If you’re looking for pool access without the kid factor, this is where you want to be.
A Couple of Honest Downsides
Like most Vegas casino floors, there was smoke throughout the casino — not a Flamingo-specific issue, but worth knowing if that affects your stay.
Parking can also be a little tricky. The garage exit isn’t obvious, and it’s easy to miss it and end up circling back through the garage again — I did it myself, and watched another car make the same mistake right after me. Keep an eye out for the small orange arrow near the bottom of the garage; that marks your actual exit.
Worth noting: you’ll see Paris and Horseshoe pull slightly higher star ratings on sites like Hotels.com. But those aggregate scores tend to reflect the whole package — casino floor, nightlife, location — more than they reflect what a specific room actually looks and feels like. That’s the gap this kind of hands-on review is meant to fill.
Final Take
I went in with low expectations and came out genuinely impressed. Between the clean, comfortable room, the actually-clean windows with a real view, the Wildlife Habitat, and the overall feel of the property, Flamingo exceeded what I thought a budget stay on the Strip could offer. It’s now my favorite budget pick — and I’d book here again before Horseshoe or Paris.
