Flamingo vs Horseshoe Las Vegas: Which Budget Strip Hotel to Book

VegasUnscripted · Flamingo vs Horseshoe Las Vegas

Flamingo vs Horseshoe Las Vegas: two budget-friendly hotels facing each other across Flamingo Road, and I’ve stayed at both. Here’s which one to book, depending on why you’re coming to Vegas.

On paper, these two look almost identical: same busy center-Strip intersection, same loud check-in right off the casino floor, same budget-friendly rates. After staying at both, the real difference comes down to one question: are you going to spend time at the hotel, or just sleep there?

The Short Answer

Flamingo for most people. Horseshoe if you just need a great base.

Flamingo wins on the room and the pools. Horseshoe wins on a quiet room, lighter smoke and an unbeatable spot for walking the Strip.

Location: A Tie, Right Across the Street

You really can’t lose here. The two hotels face each other across Flamingo Road in the middle of the Strip. Horseshoe connects directly to Paris Las Vegas and sits across from Caesars Palace, and both are an easy walk to Bellagio, the Cosmopolitan and the High Roller. Each has a Monorail station close by: Flamingo/Caesars Palace and Horseshoe/Paris. Our Las Vegas Monorail guide covers both.

The Room: Flamingo Wins on Feel

This is where the two pull apart. My Flamingo Habitat King room felt clean, modern and more cared-for than I expected for a budget stay. The windows were actually clean, and the lounge chair by the glass made it a real spot to sit and take in the view of the High Roller and the Sphere. The bedding, a comforter sandwiched between two sheets, made the room feel more put together. The Flamingo room did feel a little smaller, though honestly, room size isn’t something I care much about.

Horseshoe’s Resort Tower king was clean, comfortable and quiet, nothing fancy, but well kept. The view was just as good as Flamingo’s: a straight-on look at the High Roller and the Sphere. On views, it’s a tie. There’s no coffee maker or robe, but that’s not really the expectation at either property.

Smoke and Energy: Both Lively, Flamingo More So

At both hotels, the front desk sits right off the casino floor, so expect noise, crowds and slot machines the moment you walk in. Both casino floors have heavy smoke, and Flamingo’s felt a little heavier to me. Flamingo also runs higher-energy overall. Horseshoe feels more balanced, and once you’re upstairs, its room was genuinely quiet. If smoke is a deal-breaker for you, neither one is your hotel.

The Pools: Flamingo, Easily

Flamingo has two pools for two kinds of travelers. The family pool has waterfalls, palm trees and a rock-style water slide that kept my own kids entertained for hours years ago. The GO Pool is the 21-and-over side, laid-back in the morning and a full party by afternoon. Flamingo’s site currently lists both pools as open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., an hour longer than Horseshoe. The family pool is for hotel guests, and both pools are seasonal, so check that they’re open if you’re visiting in the cooler months.

Promised the kids the water slide? It doesn’t run every day. It has typically opened on weekends only, and there’s a height minimum, so check before you go. Pool hours are subject to change, and you can always call the hotel and ask for the pool desk.

Horseshoe’s pool is in the basement, a very long walk from the guest rooms, and open only 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If a pool day is part of your plan, this decides it.

The Extras: Flamingos vs. Poker

Flamingo has the Wildlife Habitat, a free garden behind the casino with live flamingos, koi ponds and turtles. It’s the easiest break from the casino noise on either property, and a hit with kids.

Horseshoe is the home of the World Series of Poker, which matters if you’re here to play. There’s also a Twilight Zone-themed mini golf, bowling and arcade zone in the basement, a Lavazza coffee stand near check-in, and Jack Binion’s Steak for dinner.

The Verdict: Which One Should You Book?

Book Flamingo if

  • You’re traveling with kids
  • You want a pool day, family or adults-only
  • You want a brighter, more comfortable room at a budget-friendly rate

Book Horseshoe if

  • You’re in town to gamble or play poker
  • You’ll spend your days walking the Strip
  • You want a quiet room with a great view to come back to

For most people, I’d send them to Flamingo. It surprised me, and it’s now my favorite budget pick on the Strip. But if the hotel is just where you sleep between adventures, Horseshoe’s location and quiet room are hard to beat.
